Philippine Festivals – a tradition rich in culture.

January witnessed a slew of festivals in the Philippines. From the famous Dinagyang Festival in IloIlo to the colorful Sinulog Festival in Cebu. And the Philippines is just gearing up for more celebrations to come - it being a country that features festivities all year-round. Though this only presents the tip of the iceberg as more festivals are in-store for us this February onwards.

Baguio City, as has been tradition, is awash with color and flowery scents as it celebrates its Panagbenga Festival. And, of course, in recognition of the rich Filipino culture, February marks the celebration of National Arts Month where the National Commission for Culture of the Arts (NCCA) is gearing up for the Philippine International Arts Festival (PIAF) with the theme 'Ani ng Sining'. In line with this, the Philippines holds the honor of being named the 1st Cultural Capital of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) for 2010 and 2011. Further proof how diversity and tradition has made the country a cultural showcase for history, tradition and its own brand of creativity.

Therefore, for those still planning their trips to the Philippines, don't forget to check out the different festivals, fiestas and events that would definitely be well worth the experience as one seeks to either return to their grassroots or just discover a place that would both enthrall and captivate.
