Pregnancy & Travel

Being pregnant shouldn’t restrict you in traveling to places you’d like to see. In fact, a vacation is a perfect time for you to relax and rejuvenate; just before you submit to sleepless nights of baby feeding and diaper changing. But before heading out to your destination, here are some tips to help you achieve that smooth less-stressful pregnancy vacation.

PLAN

When planning a trip, one of the most important things to consider is to go at a time that best suit the trimester of your pregnancy. For some women, morning sickness and fatigue may come along early pregnancy; travelling on the last trimester is also definitely not a good idea. According to most health experts, the second trimester is the safest time to travel as the risks of miscarriage and preterm labor are lower during this period.

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

Consulting you doctor before traveling is vital most especially to pregnant women. Ask for expert’s advice on what is ok and what is not. Tell your doctor about your plans – your destination, planned activity, date of travel and other essential details. Be sure to follow everything the doctor has told you to do. Do not forget to keep a copy of your doctor’s contact number when traveling; just in case you need something to consult to.

CONSIDER YOUR DESTINATION

When choosing for a destination, always keep your mind open. Try to select the best option by seeking your well deserve rest and relaxation on a more scenic and calming place rather than on a busy crowded area – a spa or resort could be the best place for you to go. Do not take on any exhausting activities like water sports, hiking or any activity where a risk of injury or accident is higher. The secret is to have a low key vacation; do not overexert and rest whenever is possible.

PACK LIGHT

Packing for a trip is essential as these needs enough time especially for pregnant woman whose “to do/to bring list” is much more extensive. Remember to pack light by bringing only your essentials. Involve your partner or family members in packing.

MAKE GOOD CHOICES

Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes; wear comfortable and breathable ones instead. Also, consider wearing compression stockings as these decrease the risk of getting a blood clot. Drink lots of water, eat fruits and vegetables, and take frequent rest by stretching and doing little exercises such as arm and leg stretches.

Do not let that pregnancy stop you from taking that much needed vacation. An extra care and precaution, planning, consultation and a positive outlook will surely ensure your safety and that of your baby. Bon Voyage!

Avoid Travel Stress

Traveling can be tough at times especially when you’re unprepared. Whether you're traveling for a vacation, business, or to be with your loved ones – don’t let the stress of traveling strike you. Follow these helpful tips and make your traveling a lot easier next time:

Always Plan Ahead

Planning is always the first step of everything especially when it comes to traveling. Know what you need to do first. Make sure to double check your flight details to avoid cancellations or delays by calling your travel agent or visiting the airlines’ website. Keep in mind your flight schedule, baggage allowance, travel fees, and the airport's security procedure. In addition, arrange your hotel bookings ahead of time as well as your transportation to prevent frustration once you arrive at your destination.

Pack Light

Make a list of things you’ll bring with you on your travel. You don’t need to bring a lot of stuff; only the essential ones. Packing light is a wise thing to do; it can take you away from a big amount of stress.

Comfort is your Friend

Stay relaxed throughout the course of your travel by wearing comfortable clothes and footwear. Choose clothes that are made from 100% cotton. This is appropriate for all types of weather condition, plus it’s very comfortable.  Wear lightweight shoes to prevent your feet from feeling sore since your journey may require long walks. When travelling, comfort is your best companion.

Get Enough Sleep and Eat Well

Getting enough sleep is a key to get your full energy out on the day you go on a travel. Traveling may require some baggage lifting, minutes of walking, and waiting.  Eating just the right amount of food is likewise a smart thing to do to keep your energy flowing.

Don’t Forget the Medicines

Bringing certain medicines with you when you travel is very important. Sicknesses such as nausea, dizziness, colds, fever, and other common travel sicknesses may occur while you’re on your journey. So keep them handy all the time; they’ll help you feel well throughout your travel.

Money in your Pocket

It is wise for you to put some money in your pocket aside from your wallet. This will keep you insured at times when an unfortunate event such losing your wallet or bag happens.
