Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia, with over 9 million people population. popular food offered by street vendors is basko (meatballs), which is commonly served in a bowl, with noodles, beans, tofu, eggs, and meat.
Another popular dish found in the streets of Jakarta is soto. It is a soup-like dish that is mainly comprised of broth and vegetables with beef, chicken, pork, or mutton meat. This street food is perfectly served with rice.

BAWANG (GARLIC) FESTIVAL
May 1- May 3 | Sinait, Ilocos Sur


Held during the 1st to 3rd of May, the Bawang Festival is celebrated in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; also known as the Garlic Center of the North. This marvelous festival aims to showcase the ingenuity and hard work of the Ilocano farmers. The celebration features a parade of garlic floats, street dancing presentations and cooking competitions. The main highlight of the gala is the search for the biggest Garlic Bulb. Several other contests like fastest garlic bundling; longest twined garlic and creative bundling are also held to entertain tourist and town locals. 

MANTAWI FESTIVAL
May 5 | Mandaue City, Cebu


The Mantawi Festival is an annual event celebrated not only to showcase the city’s historical heritage and identity but it is also geared towards promoting the city as an industrial and tourist hub. The highlight of the festival is a parade of street dancers, floats and dioramas showcasing the history and culture of Mandaue accompanied by brass instruments. A pageantry of the city’s heroes and great personages as known as higantes can also be seen during the event.

SANTACRUZAN


Observed in almost every town in the Philippines during the month of May, the Santacruzan is an event which commemorates St. Helena’s finding the “true cross”. It features a procession of young women clad in beautiful gowns and arcs representing Biblical characters and virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The event is often celebrated with a feast and a wonderful fireworks display that lights the dark evening sky.
