Traveling with your Pet

February 18, 2014 Mango Tours 0 Comments

To most people, pets are more than just animals; they are an extension of one’s character. To some, they are like a brother/sister or even a child. Domesticated animals like dogs and cats are fun to be with in a journey. But if you are planning to take your pet snake or iguana, think twice because that might not be a good idea. Not all pets are suited for travel. Traveling with a pet requires utmost attention and preparation. For taking your cuddly, harmless pets in a journey, remember these guides:
  • If flying, secure a pet certificate and bring all the necessary pet documents for boarding.

  • Make sure that your pet is welcome to the resort/hotel you are staying at.

  • Familiarize yourself with the pet policies of the airline.

  • Make sure that you have provided them with enough food and water. If boarding on a plane, give them ice cubes instead of water.

  • Bring a current photo of your pet. This will help you and other people should your pet got lost.

  • If traveling by plane, do not feed your pet for four to six hours prior to boarding.

  • Fit your pet with a collar/tag with your name, address and contact number where you can be reached.

  • Have a plan for how you’re going to properly restrain your pet in your vehicle.

  • Do not leave your pet unattended.

  • Have them groomed before you leave.

  • If traveling by land, do not let your pet stick out its head on doors and windows.

  • Before you depart, make sure to clip your pets’ nails to diminish any unwanted damage.

  • Most importantly, consult your veterinarian prior to traveling.
