The Miss Universe candidates have arrived in the Philippines! The international beauties flew from all corners of the globe to compete in the mother of all beauty pageants and prove their worth. Charm, beauty and wit: these women will need to excel in all three to climb their way to the top as the next crowned queen!
But it's not all training and tense nerves as these lovely ladies got to spend their first few days basking under the Philippine sun and enjoying their sweet time with photo shoots, fashion shows and tours to help relax and build up the hype for the big event coming this January 30, 2017!
First, we check out their activities in Cebu, the “Queen City of the South”. This island is just full of so many diverse and historic buildings, like the Taoist Temple, Fort San Pedro and the Basilica del Sto. Nino. The girls put on their swimsuit for a fashion show in JPark Island Resort and Waterpark. The contestants definitely looked ready to hit the beach in their differently styled and colored swimwear.
Another history-rich destinations these global beauties touched down on is the island of Vigan. Located within Ilocos, there are many buildings and even whole towns that give off the vibe of a simpler time during the Spanish occupation. The contestants experienced touring this region's many destinations, like the Baluarte Zoo, and also got to try their hands at loom weaving and jar making.
After that, it was time to move on to Davao, the agri-business center of the tropical isles. The fair weather and cool climate of the area would definitely be a welcome change from the sunny places they last visited. Here, the girls made sure to do the locals proud by strutting the catwalk in tapestry-like outfits created by Davao-based designers and woven by Mindanao tribeswomen.
But what’s a trip to the Philippines without some well-deserved beach time? Boracay was the place for the contestants to lie on the sand and bask in the sun. But their tan’s weren’t the only thing they were working on as the cameras kept clicking for a white-sand pictorial.
Knowing that the warm sun could be too much for these fair maidens, they were set to have a colorful and captivating parade in the streets of chilly Baguio. Candidates who come from the colder countries out there definitely felt at home in this mountaintop region where locals don scarves, mittens and jackets to combat the cold. A sweet treat awaited them too when they got to pick some juicy morsels at the famous Strawberry Farm.
With only a week left until a new queen is crowned, the Miss Universe candidates will definitely need to do their best to be above the rest. But one thing is for certain: all these women are winners in their own right and the memories they’ve made traveling the tropical archipelago is just one great part of their journey to being the best.
