January 30th, the moment pageant fans and proud countries from all over the world have been waiting for! The moment for the crown to be passed on to the universe’s most charming , beautiful and confident woman was slowly approaching.
Once the decision was clear, a hushed atmosphere took hold of the stage before they announced Iris Mittenaere from France as the newly-crowned Miss Universe 2016! Following Miss Mittenaere was the first runner-up, Raquel Pelissier from Haiti, and the second runner-up winner, Andrea Tovar from Colombia.
Iris is a 24-year old Parisian native who has been been studying dental surgery and has plans of using her newfound fame and platform to advocate oral maintenance and health. The new Miss Universe winner has been keeping cool under pressure, being consistent in her poise and confidence all throughout the entire event. She even managed to have a concise answer for her Q&A portion, which dealt with the difficult subject of immigration and the acceptance of foreign refugees.
As for Philippine representative Maxine Medina, she managed to climb to the top 6 spots for the night but fell just short of taking her place among the top 3. A collective howl rung through the crowd as Harvey did not announce the lovely Filipina as one of the top tier contestants. But even without securing a spot at the top, the country is proud of her getting as far as she could, being part of the top 10 who were favored to wear the stunning pageant crown.
In fact, all the ladies gave their best and gave the world a stunning show. It was truly a night where beauty, both inside and out, helped bring the nations of the world together and instill pride in both the representatives and the countries across the globe.
