The most curious and interesting of wonders are usually hidden out of sight: buried treasure, birthday presents, the mysterious yeti, and, of course, the Puerto Princesa Underground River. This landmark in the tropical isles of the Philippines is one of Palawan’s biggest attraction, drawing in crowds year after year.
Found 80 kilometers (50 mi) north of the city center of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, travelers need to wear light outfits like shorts and shirts to keep cool even in the island’s tropical climes while traveling. Upon arrival, passengers will put on a helmet and a safety vest before jumping into a boat. Rowed by one of the local boatmen, visitors can just enjoy the ride and observe the mesmerizing limestone rock formations inside.
