Christmas in Pampanga: Lanterns and Belens

Pampanga is where you experience Christmas at its best. It is a home to two of the largest Christmas events in the Philippines where true spirit of Christmas comes alive.

In the city of San Fernando, the Giant Christmas Lantern Parade (locally known as the Ligligan Parol), is certainly the much-awaited Christmas event in Pampanga.

Color-rich lanterns made from capiz shells and other materials like plastic and woods are carefully hand-crafted to produce these world-class lanterns. Fernandinos are known to be the best makers of lanterns; it’s no wonder a lot of these fantastically-lighted lanterns are being exported to different countries.

A large number of tourists flock in San Fernando, Pampanga every year just to witness this amazing, holiday event.

The Belinissimo, also known as The Art of Making Belen, is another special Christmas event held annually in Pampanga.

It is a tradition held every year in the city of Tarlac where a collection of Nativity scenes of the Holy Family are displayed outdoors showcasing TarlaqueƱos’ artistically-made Belens.

Local and international tourists join the celebration to witness this blessed event that portrays the true meaning of Christmas – that is, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Loads of bewilderments and smiles are painted on everyone’s face whenever one gets to see such a wonderful sight brought by these astonishing Christmas symbols. Maybe that’s what Christmas is really about, feeling amazed all of the time.

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year – celebrate it through a merry holiday trip to the Christmas Capital of the Philippines – Pampanga.  Enjoy each moment with your loved ones and indulge in festive, culture-rich getaway!
